B.C. records 1,236 new COVID-19 cases over past three days; active cases, hospitalizations down

VICTORIA — B.C. has found another 1,236 cases of COVID-19 over the past three days, but there are positive signs in the indicators of active cases and hospitalizations.

In a news conference, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 428 new cases Saturday (Feb. 6), 465 on Sunday and 343 on Monday.

Henry said 152 of the weekend cases were found within Interior Health.

The new cases bring B.C.’s total to 70,952, spread through the province as follows:

• 16,308 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 266)
• 42,204 — Fraser Health (up by 601)
• 1,868 — Island Health (up by 86)
• 6,721 — Interior Health (up by 152)
• 3,812 — Northern Health (up by 131)
• 144 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reported 3,976 active cases of COVID-19 in the province Monday — down by about 450 from Friday. There are now 234 patients in hospital and 69 in critical or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 894 active cases Monday, with 46 people in hospital and 16 in critical care.

Thirteen more people have died of the virus in B.C., bringing the death toll to 1,259. Three of the weekend deaths took place within Interior Health.

There are at least 6,900 people under active public health monitoring due to direct exposure to known COVID-19 cases.

A total of 65,605 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 92 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry noted 154,496 doses of vaccine have been administered to British Columbians, including 12,111 second doses.
