KAMLOOPS — A search continued Friday (Jan. 29) for a person who reportedly attempted to swim across the North Thompson River but did not make it to the other shore.

Cst. Crystal Evelyn of Kamloops RCMP says a man was reported walking into the river from the Tk’emlups Reserve side, “dunking his head into the water and trying to swim across.” Witnesses told investigators that man bobbed up and down several times before submerging.

Emergency responders rushed to the area, along with the RCMP Police Dog Services Unit, the Kamloops Fire Rescue boat and a drone operated by Kamloops Search and Rescue.

To this point, the man has not been found.
