B.C. records 407 new COVID-19 cases, 14 more deaths

KAMLOOPS — B.C. is reporting 407 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (Jan. 26), including 54 within Interior Health.

The figures are contained in a prepared update from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The new cases swell B.C.’s total case count to 65,234, spread through the province as follows:

• 14,898 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 124)
• 39,633 — Fraser Health (up by 169)
• 1,493 — Island Health (up by 22)
• 5,927 — Interior Health (up by 54)
• 3,251 — Northern Health (up by 38)
• 138 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 4,260 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Tuesday, down 132 from Monday. Of the active cases, 313 people are in hospital with 71 in critical care.

Within Interior Health, there are 985 active cases Tuesday, a decrease of 49 from Monday. There are 49 patients hospitalized including 13 in critical care.

Fourteen more people have died of the virus, bringing B.C.’s death toll to 1,168. Four of today’s COVID-19 deaths took place within Interior Health, pushing the regional death toll to 66.

More than 6,450 people are under active public health monitoring due to direct exposure to COVID-19-positive individuals.

The total of those considered fully recovered has reached 58,352, or 89 per cent of all recorded cases.

Meantime, Henry reports the province has administered 122,359 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, including 4,105 second doses.
