B.C. finds 508 new COVID-19 cases Friday, 79 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — Provincial health officials are reporting 508 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (Jan. 22), including 79 within Interior Health.

The new cases raise the provincial total to 63,484, spread throughout the province as follows:

  • 14,460 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 132)
  • 38,846 — Fraser Health (up by 228)
  • 1,398 — Island Health (up by 13)
  • 5,639 — Interior Health (up by 79)
  • 3,109 — Northern Health (up by 55)
  • 137 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

In a prepared statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 4,479 active cases Friday, up by 29 from Thursday. There are 315 patients in hospital with 74 in intensive care.

Interior Health now has 1,098 active cases — unchanged from Thursday. There are 37 people in hospital and nine in critical care.

Nine more people have died of COVID-19, increasing the provincial death toll to 1,128. Two of those deaths took place in Interior Health, lifting the regional death toll to 59.

A total of 6,719 people are under active public health monitoring because they have had direct contact with COVID-19-positive individuals.

The number of those considered fully recovered from the virus is now 56,455, or 89 per cent of all recorded cases.

Meantime, the province reports 110,566 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to British Columbians, including 2,202 second doses.
