B.C. records 446 new cases of COVID-19, nine more deaths

VICTORIA — B.C. is experiencing some positive momentum with its COVID-19 case count.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 446 new cases of the virus Tuesday (Jan. 12), including 67 within Interior Health.

The active case load in B.C. is down once again to 5,045 Tuesday.

The new cases bring the provincial total to 58,553 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, spread through B.C. as follows:

• 13,408 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 96)
• 36,510 — Fraser Health (up by 223)
• 1,152 — Island Health (up by 14)
• 4,771 — Interior Health (up by 67)
• 2,606 — Northern Health (up by 46)
• 111 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Of the 5,045 active cases in B.C. Tuesday, 368 patients are in hospital with 72 in intensive care.

The active case load in Interior Health increased again, to 895. There are 37 people in hospital including nine in intensive care.

Nine more people have died of COVID-19, raising the provincial death toll to 1,019.

The province is actively monitoring 7,238 people because they have direct contact with COVID-19-positive patients.

A total 51,144 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 87 per cent of all known cases.

Meantime, Dr. Henry says 62,294 people have received their initial doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
