New B.C. COVID-19 case count down to 522 — but 21 more people have died from the virus

VICTORIA — The province has recorded 522 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (Dec. 15), the lowest total in weeks.

In a news release, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 56 of those cases were found in Interior Health.

The new cases bring the provincial total to 43,463, distributed through B.C. as follows:

  • 10,620 — Vancouver Coastal (up 84)
  • 27,679 — Fraser Health (up by 338)
  • 794 — Island Health (up by 7)
  • 2,907 — Interior Health (up by 56)
  • 1,368 — Northern Health (up by 37)
  • 99 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

The active case load has dipped back below 10,000 at 9,860, with 361 patients in hospital including 93 in intensive care.

Interior Health reports 818 active cases of the virus, with 25 patients in hospital including eight in intensive care.

Twenty-one more people have died of COVID-19, lifting B.C.’s death toll to 668.

The total of people under active public health monitoring due to confirmed COVID-19 exposure is now 10,768.

There are 31,886 people considered fully recovered from the virus, or 73 per cent of all recorded cases.
