NDP promise to open Ashcroft Hospital emergency room 24/7 if elected

ASHCROFT, B.C. — An NDP campaign commitment announced Monday will get the attention of people who live in the Ashcroft area.

Fraser-Nicola candidate Aaron Sumexheltza says a re-elected NDP government would ensure the emergency department at the Ashcroft Hospital is able to remain open 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

“On certain days, if you have to drive an hour to Kamloops in an ambulance, that’s just not good enough,” Sumexheltza told CFJC Today. “In Fraser-Nicola, we have people who live in rural communities and we need to do more to make sure that they have access to the same health care that people do in more urban centres.”

The Ashcroft Hospital’s emergency department has been fraught with temporary closures over the past few years due to staffing shortages.
