B.C. adds 80 new COVID-19 cases, hits 200 deaths since pandemic began

VICTORIA — B.C. health officials report 80 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday (Aug. 20) but, for the first time in three weeks, the active case count has decreased.

The 80 new cases boost the provincial total of recorded cases since the pandemic arrived in B.C. to 4,825, spread through the province as follows:

  • 1,526 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 2,533 (Fraser Health)
  • 159 (Island Health)
  • 411 (Interior Health)
  • 121 (Northern Health)
  • 75 (Reside outside of Canada)

There were no new cases in Interior Health Thursday.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 is now 780, down 18 from Wednesday. Eleven patients are hospitalized and four remain in critical care.

Two more people, both in the Fraser Health area, have died of COVID-19, bringing the provincial death toll to an even 200.

The total of those considered fully recovered is now 3,845, or 80 per cent of all recorded cases.

A new outbreak has popped up at a Loblaw’s warehouse in the Fraser Health region. There were no new outbreaks in the healthcare system and an outbreak on Haida Gwaii has been declared over.
