VICTORIA — The province is reporting 34 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday (July 22) and, once again, the Interior has seen a significant increase.

The 34 cases bring the provincial total to 3,362. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says three of today’s cases have been epidemiologically linked to other COVID-19 cases.

There are 13 new cases within Interior Health, bringing the total in the local region to 304.

Here is how the 3,362 total cases in B.C. are distributed:

  • 1,049 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 1,742 (Fraser Health)
  • 141 (Vancouver Island)
  • 304 (Interior Health)
  • 69 (Northern Health)
  • 57 (Reside outside of Canada)

Dr. Henry says the number of COVID-19 cases directly related to community exposure events in Kelowna around Canada Day is now more than 70. She says about 1,000 people are self-isolating as a direct result of those exposure events.

There are 285 active cases reported in B.C. Wednesday, including 17 people who are in hospital and three patients who are in critical or intensive care.

Once again, no new deaths have been reported, leaving the provincial death toll to 189.

Of the total number of cases, 2,888 are considered fully recovered, or 86 per cent.

Meantime, Dr. Henry announced an amended public health order for bars and restaurants. In those locations, all patrons must be seated and no dance floors will be allowed.
