With 18 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, B.C. surpasses 3,000-case milestone

VICTORIA — The latest COVID-19 totals from the province show 18 new cases in B.C.

In a news release Wednesday (July 8), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says the new cases bring the province past the 3,000 mark, to 3,008.

Those cases are located in the following areas:

  • 1,018 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 1,589 (Fraser Health)
  • 133 (Island Health)
  • 203 (Interior Health)
  • 65 (Northern Health)

There are 162 active cases in B.C., including 17 people who are in hospital and three in intensive care.

Dr. Henry reported three further deaths Wednesday, all in Vancouver Coastal Health. The provincial death toll is now 186.

While there are no new outbreaks, the province is warning residents about an exposure event at a Vancouver nightclub for the second day in a row. An alert has been sent for anyone who attended the No. 5 Orange nightclub on Canada Day, July 1.

The total of those considered fully recovered from COVID-19 is now 2,660, or 88 per cent.
