VICTORIA — Williams Lake is one of eight communities in B.C. that will receive a Foundry centre, after an announcement Monday morning (June 15) from the provincial government.

Described as a one-stop-shop for youth mental health services, Foundry Williams Lake will be operated by the Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre Association.

According to a government news release, the new Foundry centres “will offer increased access to integrated health and wellness services for young people aged 12 to 24 in both rural and urban communities.”

In addition to Williams Lake, Foundry centres will be set up in Burns Lake, the Comox Valley, Cranbrook, Langley, Squamish, Surrey and Port Hardy.

The eight communities were chosen after a call for expressions of interest went out last fall.

The Kamloops-Thompson School District expressed interest in a Foundry centre for Kamloops earlier this year, but Kamloops was not included in today’s announcement.
