KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School District board of education is putting its support behind a Foundry Centre in Kamloops.

Board Chair Kathleen Karpuk says the centre would be a one-stop shop for youth mental health services.

“Youth who do need to have additional support through mental health — we’re a regional centre so we do have youth that come from outside of our community from smaller communities to access services,” Karpuk says.

Karpuk says a Foundry Centre would allow youths and their families to access a number of services in one location.

“For them to be able to get it all in one spot would be very important and so this is something that the district and the board supports in full.”

In November, Foundry BC put a call out for communities to express their interest in having a local centre.

Interior Community Services spoke to CFJC Today after the expression of interest phased opened.

Chief Operating Officer Valerie Janz said the organization has been advocating for a Foundry Centre since 2015 — and they had plans to do so again.

On Monday (Jan. 13) the School District 73 board of education voted to provide a letter of support for a Foundry Centre to be located here.
