Province announces 34 new COVID-19 cases — but 74 more patients considered fully recovered

VICTORIA — There is positive news from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s daily briefing Wednesday (Apr. 29).

Henry announced 34 new test positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total in B.C. to 2,087.

But the number of those considered fully recovered jumped by 74 in the past day. There are now 1,305 people considered recovered from the virus, or 63 per cent of all cases.

Four more people have died due to COVID-19, increasing the province’s death toll to 109. Henry said all four were seniors, with three in the Vancouver Coastal Health area and one in Fraser Health.

She also noted a person who died in Interior Health Tuesday was a man in his 70s who had been battling COVID-19 for several weeks, and had contracted it while travelling internationally.

Eighty-nine people are hospitalized with the virus, including six in Interior Health. Thirty-five British Columbians are in critical or intensive care.

There are 24 active long-term care facility outbreaks at present, and there are four outbreaks at B.C. poultry plants.

Of the 2,087 test positive cases of COVID-19, this is the breakdown by region:

  • 811 – Vancouver Coastal Health
  • 941 – Fraser Health
  • 120 – Vancouver Island Health
  • 169 – Interior Health
  • 46 – Northern Health
