Kamloops player Molendyk signs with Saskatoon Blades

KAMLOOPS — The 5th overall pick in last weeks Western Hockey League Bantam Draft has signed with the Saskatoon Blades.

Defenseman Tanner Molendyk, who is from Kamloops, was the Blades first pick in the draft.

The captain of the Yale Hockey Academy bantam prep team last season, Molendyk scored 9 goals and 55 points in 27 games with Yale in the Canadian Sports School League.

He added another 2 goals and 4 assists in two playoff games before the coronavirus shut down the season.

Molendyk was named the Canadian Sports School League defenseman of the year.

As a 15-year old in the coming season Molendyk won’t be eligible to play fulltime with the Blades until the 2021-22 season.

He is one of six players from Kamloops taken in the bantam draft, and the first to sign.
