Apr 24, 2020 | 8:04 PM

Williams Lake – Five homes in the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) have fallen under evacuation orders. The orders were issued Friday evening by the CRD Emergency Operations Centre as floodwaters throughout the region continued to rise.

One property is located on Milburn Lake Road, west of Bouchie lake.

Four other properties on Horsefly Road along Hawks Creek have also been issued evacuation orders. Those homes are located northeast of Williams Lake.

Residents in evacuated properties are instructed to:

  • Leave the area immediately.
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Do not shut off your natural gas.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Gather your family: take a neighbour or someone who needs help.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available.
  • Take pets in pet kennels or on a leash.
  • Do not use more vehicles than you have to.
  • Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.

The Cariboo Regional District is encouraging residents to register with the Cariboo Chilcotin Emergency Notification System. Registrants with the system will receive a text, call or email when Evacuation Alerts or Orders are declared.
