Death toll rises in Nova Scotia shootings
HALIFAX – The number of people killed in last weekend’s shooting rampage in Nova Scotia has grown to 23. Nova Scotia RCMP released the new figure Tuesday afternoon.
RCMP Chief Supt. Chris Leather has said he expects the number of victims to increase as the investigation unfolds in the days ahead.
Police say the investigation is both detailed and complex and stretches over 16 locations in the communities of Portapique, Wentworth, Debert, Shubenacadie/Milford and Enfield. Police say the 16 crime scenes include five burned buildings where it is feared additional bodies will be found inside.
Mounties refuse to speculate on Gabriel Wortman’s motives. The gunman was tracked down at a service station in Enfield. Wortman was shot by police and later died.
