KAMLOOPS — It is with very heavy hearts that the executive of Kamloops International Baseball has to make a very serious difficult decision about the 2020 Tournament. We have put a lot of thought into this and have concluded that we must CANCEL this year for the safety of the teams and volunteers and fans. We understand the difficulty that this has put on each and every one of you but you must understand that we need to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 and protect the health of all people.

While the full extent and impact felt from the COVID-19 outbreak remains unknown the direction from the government is to restrict large gatherings, travel and physical interaction. As our teams travel from US and Canada this would be merely impossible for KIBT to secure. We need to respect this issue and take socially responsible action .

As a nation we have no idea the length of this virus and waiting a month or so only puts the committee in more jeopardy. Our tournament is supported by the continuous sponsorship for our community. At this time most of our sponsors have closed their businesses and if they were to reopen soon would not be in the position to sponsor as they need to recoup from the shutdown that they have experienced. The sponsorship committee would not be in the position to be able to secure any funds which in turn KIBT would not have the money to pay out and run a tournament this year. We are not the only organization that is cancelling such and feel this is the best thing to do right now. We will work hard once this is over to run a successful tournament in 2021.

We ask that you please respect our decision and understand that we are all disappointed as well. We can only hope that you will still be interested to participate in our 2021 Tournament.
