SUN PEAKS – The Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality is reporting a positive test for the COVID 19 virus. It also suggests more people are likely to test positive.

In the first of two news releases Saturday, the Municipality says the individual who tested positive went into self-isolation March 11th. There is no further information on the current health of the individual.

The statement goes on to say, “Sun Peaks also has presumptive cases of those exhibiting symptoms and more than likely, we also have others who have the COVID-19 virus who are only mildly sick.”

The municipality is reminding residents to follow social distancing guidelines that have been set out by provincial health officials. Those guidelines suggest that when people are outside their homes, they should keep about two metres apart. That’s about the length of a queen-sized bed.

“Please take this notice seriously as you must social distance yourself at all times,” said Mayor Al Raine. “This virus can spread easily through close contact before symptoms are evident. Therefore, these rules are mandatory for everyone to follow even if you feel entirely well.”

The statement warns residents that gatherings that continue to occur within the area, need to be halted. It states, “Medical practitioners in Sun Peaks have been shocked at the number of people still gathering in social situations, including seniors!”

Meantime the municipality says the Interior Health Authority is working to establish a respiratory clinic in Kamloops to help screen residents for the virus.

The Sun Peaks Emergency Operations Centre was activated at the lowest level on March 11 and includes representatives from municipality, Sun Peaks Fire Rescue, Sun Peaks Health Centre, Sun Peaks Resort LLP, and Tourism Sun Peaks.
