Taylor Swift’s Behind the Scenes
Taylor Swift is opening up about her first solo venture behind the camera.
Prior to the release of her seventh album, Swift released three singles: “Me,” “You Need to Calm Down,” and the title track, “Lover.” For each one, she co-directed the accompanying music video. However, she decided to take the reins herself for her fourth single, “The Man.”
In a new behind-the-scenes video, Swift explains that she decided to sit in the director’s chair because all the female directors she wanted to use were busy.
There is footage of Taylor directing – while in full makeup and costume as a man. Swift called the process “so hilarious,” saying, “I would just tell the actors what was going on and how I wanted them to react, and we would just roll.”
The clip shows Swift giving directions to the actors, her assistant director Joe “Oz” Osbourne and her director of photography Rodrigo Prieto, Martin Scorsese’s current go-to cinematographer.
Swift underwent five hours of makeup everyday to appear as a man in the music video. The singer also had a trainer on set to teach her how to walk and act like a man.
The makeup was done by Corso who previously helped Swift become a zombie for the “Look What You Made Me Do” video from 2017.
