KELLY CLARKSON ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE ‘I DARE YOU’: Kelly Clarkson confirmed during her show on Friday that she’s getting ready to release a new song called “I Dare You” – as well as a new record. “I been busting my behind at all the jobs, and recording a record…I have a new song called ‘I Dare You,’ we’ve been working really hard on that,” she said during the show. Kelly’s last studio album, Meaning of Life, was released back in 2017. Her last non-soundtrack single, “Heat,” was released in 2018.
LIZZO SUED BY SONGWRITERS FOR ‘TRUTH HURTS’: Lizzo is being sued for her smash single, “Truth Hurts.” Brothers Justin Raisen and Jeremiah Raisen, and Justin “Yves” Rothman were originally sued by Lizzo to seek a determination that they did not deserve credit for co-penning the song. They’ve now hit back with a countersuit, claiming their song “Healthy,” written with Lizzo a few months earlier, is similar to “Truth Hurts.” A musicologist reportedly found “strikingly similar lyric and musical elements” in the two songs according to the counter-suit. Both songs begin with the line “I just did a DNA test / turns out I’m a 100% that bitch,” among other alleged similarities. Lizzo’s attorneys previously claimed the Raisens gave written waiver of any right to the song.
SELENA GOMEZ DROPS STRIPPED-DOWN ‘RARE (ALEXANDER 23 EDIT)’: Selena Gomez and musical artist Alexander 23 (real name Alexander Glantz) teamed up for their “Rare (Alexander 23 Edit),” which they released on Friday. Alexander 23 also contributed “Another Summer Night Without You” to the 13 Reasons Why Season 3 soundtrack.
AARON CARTER GIFTED MERCH TO DRIVE-THRU CASHIER, WHO HAD NO CLUE WHO HE WAS: Aaron Carter was at the drive-thru window of a fast food restaurant last week and shared an awkward moment with the cashier. The 32-year-old singer tried to give the girl at the window some free merchandise, but she had no idea who he was. “I’m Aaron Carter. This is my merch. It’s free,” he said while handing a sweater to the girl, who just said, “Oh… thanks.” The guy who was filming the moment for Aaron’s Instagram Live stream asked the cashier if she knew the song “Candy” and she did not. He then brought up Aaron’s brother Nick Carter and the Backstreet Boys, but at this point, Aaron decided to take back the sweater and leave.
