WorkSafe BC investigated workplace bullying and harassment at the TNRD last month

KAMLOOPS — WorkSafe BC says an investigation last month revolved around workplace bullying and harassment at the Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s head office.

WorkSafe BC conducted an inspection of the TNRD head office on January 24.

Inspector Erin Guy made two orders for compliance surrounding issues of workplace bullying and harassment.

First, the inspector found the TNRD’s bullying and harassment policy and procedures were “not compliant” with WorkSafe guidelines. Among other factors, the policy did not properly outline how or when to report incidents or complaints.

Second, WorkSafe found workers have not been effectively trained on the proper bullying and harassment procedures.

Guy gave the TNRD a date of February 21 — today — to submit a Notice of Compliance.

CAO Sukh Gill retired last week after a long career with the TNRD. Board Chair Ken Gillis initially termed Gill’s departure as a resignation, but later corrected himself to CFJC Today that the departure was a retirement.

Gill had taken holidays in late January and, according to Gillis, was “on leave” between his holiday and his retirement.

Gill is not mentioned by name in the WorkSafe BC report.

A call placed to Gillis Friday went unreturned.
