Demi Lovato’s Cry For Help

Demi Lovato says she hears a “cry for help” in the lyrics of her new song “Anyone.”

The 27-year-old singer and actress discussed the song in an interview on a New Music Daily with Zane Lowe.

Lovato wrote and recorded “Anyone” prior to her highly-publicized 2018 overdose and hospitalization. She explains:

“This song was written and recorded actually very shortly before everything happened. I recorded the vocals for it four days before [the overdose]” Lovato told Lowe. “The lyrics took on a totally different meaning. At the time when I was recording it, I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help. And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, how did nobody listen to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl’.”

Lovato revealed that, leading up to the incident, she felt like she “was in denial” about her issues, which resulted in a two-week hospital stay and subsequent in-patient rehab treatment.

Lovato has been sober for over a year and is focused on her happiness and well-being.

Beyond music, the singer chatted about her sexuality and hopes to start a family soon, though she’s not sure if she wants that to be with a man or a woman.

Demi premiered her new single “Anyone” last night at The Grammy Awards. Lovato needed to restart the song after she got choked up during her first attempt. She was then able to power through the performance to a standing ovation.
