SUN PEAKS, B.C. — Staff and residents in Sun Peaks will be celebrating Australia Day this weekend — all in support of wildfire relief efforts down under.

In a news release, Sun Peaks resort says Masa’s Bar and Grill and Mantles Restaurant and Lounge are each hosting a “classic sausage sizzle” on Saturday (Jan. 25) from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Grab a $5 snag (sausage) and $2 non-alcoholic beverage, and all funds will go to organizations directly involved in the Australian bushfire relief efforts.

“Each year we welcome thousands of Australians to our resort community, not to mention hundreds of seasonal staff from Australia who work in Sun Peaks. We wanted to help in whatever way we can, and our teams expressed interest and passion in getting these events off the ground,” said Aidan Kelly, chief marketing officer for Sun Peaks Resort in the news release. “With Australia Day coming up on the 26th, we felt that it was the best weekend to host fundraisers to help with the devastation that’s happening in a country so connected to us.”

On Saturday evening, Masa’s Night Club will host an Australia Day Party from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Admission is by donation, with all proceeds going to relief efforts.

Donations raised during the evening will be matched by Sun Peaks Resort and the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel.

From Friday to Sunday, food and drink specials will be available at Masa’s Bar and Grill and Morrisey’s Public House, with partial proceeds from set menu items going to relief efforts.

The resort says several other Sun Peaks businesses have been coming up with creative ways to raise funds as well.
