SALMON ARM, B.C. — A suspect is facing 10 charges after a New Year’s Day armed robbery in Salmon Arm.

According to a news release from RCMP Southeast District spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, a man wearing a balaclava and armed with a long-barrelled gun walked into an 11th Ave. N.E. liquor store at about 8:16 p.m. last Wednesday (Jan. 1).

The man is alleged to have pointed a gun at a customer before fleeing in a vehicle with cash and cigarettes.

No one was physically injured.

O’Donaghey says an off-duty RCMP officer was in the store at the time of the robbery and provided valuable information about the suspect and the vehicle involved.

Investigators made an arrest that evening.

Now, 29-year-old Anthony Robert Summers has been charged with 10 offences, including robbery with a firearm, disguising one’s face with intent to commit an offence, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Summers appeared in Salmon Arm provincial court Tuesday (Jan. 7) and was remanded in custody for his next court date, which is set for Feb. 4.
