‘More than a dozen’ missiles fired at Iraq base housing U.S. troops, Pentagon says
BAGHDAD — The Pentagon said it is assessing the damage after Iran fired “more than a dozen ballistic missiles” at a U.S. military base in Iraq over the targeted killing of its top Iranian general.
Defence Secretary for Public Affairs Jonathan Hoffman said, “It is clear that these missiles were launched from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases hosting U.S. military and coalition personnel at Al-Assad and Irbil.”
Hoffman said the U.S. will take “all necessary measures to protect and defend U.S. personnel, partners, and allies in the region,” adding its bases have been on high alert as a precaution following threats from Iran.
Iran local media said it launched “tens” of surface-to-surface missiles at Iraq‘s Ain Assad air base housing U.S. troops as part of its promise to avenge the assassination of Qassem Soleimani.
