Davis plays past 1,000 Canada West career points, as WolfPack men’s basketball downs Cougars

KAMLOOPS —The TRU WolfPack men’s basketball team started out 2020 with a strong showing last night.

Led by fifth year player, Michael Rouault with 25 points, the men downed the visiting Mount Royal University Cougars 102-73 from the Tournament Capital Centre.

A highlight of the game was TRU fifth year, Joe Davis playing past 1,000 points in his Canada West career. Davis hit the mark 54 seconds into the second quarter on a left handed hook shot.

The Kamloops product went into the evening at 997 points, and brought in 15 points for the Pack during the game.

TRU was also pushed forward by the return of Kyrin Cybenko. The fifth year player was injured early in the first half of the season, and returned for the first time last night with 11 points for the WolfPack.

The WolfPack now go to 8-3 on the season heading into this evening’s second game of the weekend with the Cougars, who fell to 3-6 after last night’s performance.

Meanwhile, the WolfPack women’s basketball squad saw their record slip below .500 as they were beaten 86-61 by the visiting Mount Royal University Cougars.

TRU was led by fifth year player Leilani Carney, and third year Jordon Haggerty with 16 points each.

The two teams will face off again tonight from the Tournament Capital Centre at 5 p.m, with the tip off for the men set to follow at 7 p.m.
