KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Music Collective has helped raise more than $5,000 to bring music back to Parkcrest Elementary.

A full set of Orff Instruments will be delivered to staff and students.

In a news release, the Kamloops Music Collective says it was able to collect enough money to purchase a set of Orff Instruments, which include Xylophones, Marimbas, and Glockenspiels.

“Donations came from local businesses like Scorpion Technologies, local Music organizations like the Kamloops Music Collective, The Kamloops Fiddlers and the Kamloops Community Band and many smaller donations from local citizens committed to supporting music education at the school,” the release states. “A donation was also received from proceeds of an Elementary Band Workshop that was hosted by students at Grand Forks Secondary School.”

Executive director of the KMC, Kim Mangan, says the collective is thankful for community donors.

“Music is such an important part of the community of Kamloops and we are pleased to be a part of it!” she says. “These instruments will be a foundation from which the music department at the school can grow, students will have the benefit of working together with their peers on these exciting new instruments!”

Donations to the project or to the Kamloops Music Collective can be made online.
