KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue crews were back at the scene of a suspicious car fire off Rose Hill Road Friday morning.

The fire broke out at about 8:25 p.m. Thursday, with Kamloops Fire Rescue crews arriving shortly thereafter to extinguish it.

Capt. Wade Lindoff says KFR was on scene for nearly three hours as the blaze had spread to nearby trees and sagebrush.

“Conditions are still dry out there so it was spreading fast,” said Lindoff. “We had five apparatus on scene in short order with 12 personnel. We were there until shortly after 11:00 last night.”

KFR returned to the scene this morning and found there was more work to do.

“A crew went up there early this morning and did find a couple of smoldering spots within the blackened perimeter. They addressed it with more water and we’re keeping an eye on it,” said Lindoff. “As the day heats up and gets dry, we’ll keep an eye on it just to make sure that there are no hot spots left.”

The fire has been deemed suspicious, but details surrounding its ignition are still being determined.

“RCMP were on scene. We didn’t have a driver,” noted Lindoff. “There was nobody in attendance at the car fire, which, of course, is a little bit odd.”
