KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops car dealership is picking up the pieces after a vehicle smashed through the front of the business early this morning.

After getting a call from the alarm company around 4:45 a.m, Steve Smith, owner of Automotion Motors & RV in Dallas, says his son went over to check on the business and arrived to smashed glass, and a busted storefront.

“Somebody had done a smash-and-grab in the building.”

Surveillance footage shows a white pick up truck backing into the building, and one suspect running inside afterwards.

“He came out about a minute later carrying something. You can’t really see everything that he was carrying, but definitely the computer is gone.” Smith says. “I’m thinking maybe they were stealing fuel and were thinking that they were stealing the evidence of the video.”

While it’s unclear all that was stolen, Smith says a computer was taken, and several thousand dollars of damage was done to the building.

“Probably $20,000 of damage or more to the building. There’s an unbelievable amount of glass everywhere, and he broke the glass in his canopy,” Smith says .”He probably wrecked a $1,200 canopy at least, used, to do that. So it’s just unbelievable the stupidity.”

Now handling insurance claims and repair work, Automotion is also working with Kamloops RCMP, and ask anyone with information to call the local detachment at (250) 828-3000.

“Keep on the lookout for a white, four-door, Ford pickup, with a canopy on the back with no glass in the rear window.”
