KAMLOOPS — Following a police-involved motorcycle incident in Kamloops last night (May 18), the province’s police watchdog has now been notified.

In a statement from the Independent Investigations Office of BC, RCMP reported that just before 9 p.m Saturday evening, an officer saw a motorcycle headed westbound on Highway 1 in Kamloops driving at a high rate of speed.

The officer pulled over the man riding the motorcycle, and as the officer got out of his vehicle, the motorcycle driver took off.

Shortly after, the man’s motorcycle hit a centre median on the highway headed eastbound and went into oncoming traffic.

Emergency crews responded and the highway in an area of Valleyview was closed for several hours while the scene was being cleared and investigated.

The man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Anyone who saw, heard or may have dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477.
