KAMLOOPS — One man is now in Kamloops RCMP custody, after an hours long police stand off responding to a potential domestic dispute concluded with no major injuries last night.

In a release today, Staff. Sgt Ed Preto says around 7:53 p.m last night, police responded to a possible domestic dispute at 2000 Block of Robson Place in the Upper Sahali area of the city.

When RCMP arrived on scene, a 59-year-old man came out of the residence with a black handgun.

Sgt. Preto says when challenged by police, the man went back inside his residence and closed the door.

The man then refused to surrender to police despite negotiations by telephone.

The Emergency Response Team was activated in the early morning hours of Feb. 17 and arrived at the location.

Tear gas was deployed and the man was taken into custody after he came out of the home.

RCMP found several air pistols from the residence, and the investigation into this incident is continuing.

Sgt. Preto says the scene has now been released, and nearby residents are able to return to their homes.
