HOBBS & SHAW TRAILER DROPS: Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham star in the eagerly anticipated Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and fans are getting their first glimpse of the pair in the spinoff’s new trailer. In the film, they reprise their roles as law enforcement Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and assassin Deckard Shaw (Statham). Idris Elba, meanwhile, stars as the film’s villain. Vanessa Kirby also stars. David Leitch directs. The Universal film opens Aug. 2, 2019.
JOE PESCI STARS IN NEW HOME ALONE-THEMED GOOGLE AD: Joe Pesci is getting back in the Home Alone game with a new spot for Google Assistant. In the spot, Pesci (who plays a bad guy in the movie) plays himself watching Macaulay Culkin act in a previous ad spot he made for Google. Meta.
DOMENICK LOMOBARDOZZI JOINS MRS. FLETCHER: Domenic Lombardozzi has been recruited as a series regular on HBO‘s upcoming Mrs. Fletcher. The comedy stars Kathryn Hahn and is directed and executive produced by Nicole Holofcener. Mrs. Fletcher is based on Tom Perrotta‘s best-selling novel of the same name; it examines the impact of social media and porn on an empty-nest single mom and her college freshman son, played by Jackson White.
ANIMAL PLANET ORDERS BEHIND-THE-SCENES LOOK AT AQUARIUM: Animal Planet will take viewers behind the scenes of the Georgia Aquarium. Dubbed The Aquarium, the show hails from the same team (Red Arrow Entertainment) behind the network’s hit The Zoo. The Aquarium, which sets out to document the care given to the thousands of aquatic animals housed there, and the lives of the staff who care for them, will premiere later this year.
DGA AWARDS: Alfonso Cuarn, Ben Stiller and Bill Hader were among the winners of the 2019 Directors Guild Awards on Saturday. Curaron won the Feature Film Award for Roma, an Oscar contender. Stiller won for his Showtime miniseries Escape at Dannemora, based on a true story. Bradley Cooper, who was nominated for helming A Star Is Born, another Oscar contender that features him and Lady Gaga, was nominated twice but did not receive any awards.
