Kamloops Mounties seek two male suspects in ‘particularly savage’ Royal Avenue assault

KAMLOOPS —Update: Police say Shane Bradley Cameron was arrested this afternoon in Kamloops.

Jeremy David Bellows is still missing.

Earlier: Kamloops RCMP are seeking the public’s help locating two suspects in connection with last week’s criminal activity at a home on Royal Avenue.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says it all started the evening of Aug. 21 when Mounties received word of a serious stabbing which occurred at a home on 414 Royal Avenue. Shelkie says the 27 year old victim received serious stab wounds but was not cooperating with police.

The following day, police received a third party report about a possible hostage situation at the same home; leading to an immediate response by police requiring the assistance of the South East District Emergency Response Team.

To ensure the safety of the nearby residents, some homes were evacuated and access to the area was restricted until late that night.

On the evening of Aug. 23, police were again called to the same residence after reports of an apparent home invasion though this was later determined to not be the case.

“This entire series of events was directly associated to the local Kamloops drug trade. In any case involving this level of violence, even if the victims and witnesses are not cooperative, the RCMP will aggressively pursue the investigation,” says Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay.

The investigation has resulted in the following charges:

32 year old Kamloops resident Ricky William Denis has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and break and enter and is currently in custody.

32 year old Kamloops resident Jeremy David Bellows has been charged with aggravated assault, break and enter, use of an imitation firearm and forcible confinement. He is wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant and his whereabouts are unknown.

38 year old Kamloops resident Shane Bradley Cameron has been charged with aggravated assault, break and enter and forcible confinement. His is wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant and his whereabouts are unknown.

Pillay says all three are low-level employees of a larger criminal drug trafficking organization.

“The violence used in this crime was particularly savage and we prioritize enforcement on the dealers who use violence in our community,” says Pillay. “Those in charge of these drug lines often use people they consider disposable to carry out these acts of violence, knowing full well they will be pursued by the police and if convicted, are looking at serious jail terms.”
