Work continues on mudslide-damaged sections of Highway 97

CACHE CREEK — The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure say they still haven’t calculated the total costs associated with three mudslides late last week on Highway 97 from just north of Cache Creek to Clinton.

The ministry says clean-up work is continuing – noting crews are clearing ditches and culverts of mudslide debris today. Work will also take place to fix sections of highway where the shoulders were eroded, including a three-lane section that is reduced to two lanes.

This work is expected to take approximately one week to complete though the highway has since reopened in both directions.

The ministry says the slides followed heavy rain clouds that moved through the area, which was severely burned upslope from the highway during last year’s wildfires.
