Beware of drowsy driving this long weekend
VANCOUVER — With hot summer weather and long drives, it can easily lead to fatigue-related crashes. As the long weekend approaches, ICBC is reminding drivers to make sure you’re properly rested, hydrated and taking breaks from driving every two hours.
Some of the warning signs include not noticing a vehicle until it suddenly passes you, don’t recall driving the last few kilometres, yawning or daydreaming, speed creeps up and down, find yourself wandering in the next lane, shoulder or centre line and your eyes feel heavy or you have difficulty keeping your head up.
Be sure to travel in the morning and avoid driving during the night, stop driving if you start to feel sleepy, and leave enough following distance to give yourself enough time to react.
Every year in the Southern Interior, an average of 97 people are injured in 370 crashes over the B.C. Day long weekend.
