SICAMOUS, B.C. — A 52 year old man will have his day in court following an assault in Sicamous.

Sicamous RCMP Sgt. and Detachment Commander Murray McNeil says the incident occurred last Friday night (June 29), when the man is alleged to have assaulted his 60 year old friend in the victim’s home.

“Police attended and determined the injured victim had allegedly been struck several times by the suspect.”

He says police later learned the suspect in the assault had been drinking and had fled the home on Cambie Solsqua Road, along with his four year old daughter.

With the help of Shuswap Search and Rescue, McNeil says the suspect and his daughter were located in a wooded area at 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

McNeil says the suspect eventually allowed Search and Rescue members take his daughter to a family member for the night. She was not injured.

The suspect, who police say initially resisted arrest, was taken into custody without incident. The man, who has yet to be named, was released on a promise to appear in Salmon Arm Provincial Court on August 14.

The investigation continues.
