Power still out in areas of the Okanagan and Shuswap after big storma
VERNON — B-C Hydro says the power is still out in some areas of Salmon Arm, Vernon, Revelstoke and West Kelowna more than 24 hours after a wicked storm moved through the southern Interior.
But Hydro says its crews have made good progress restoring electricity to thousands more customers affected by yesterday’s blackouts.
In Vernon, the popular Kin Beach on Okanagan has been closed for at least a few days as crews clear away several trees toppled during the storm and assess the condition of others.
But city officials say the work is expected to wrap up before the weekend. Other than a couple of larger pockets, many of the outages cover a very small number of customers, and Hydro spokesman Dag Sharman says they all have to be attended to, and it will take some time to reach all of them.
