KAMLOOPS — Update: Nicole Bonnett, communications assistant and fire information officer with the Kamloops Fire Centre, says the Allie Lake has grown to 800 hectares in size.
Earlier: The BC Wildfire Service continues to battle a new wildfire that sparked just north of Savona late Wednesday afternoon.
Officially dubbed the Allie Lake fire, Kamloops Fire Centre Information Officer Jody Lucius says it’s at least 60 hectares in size now though she suspects it’s larger than that.
“I don’t have a good update from the ground yet and so I do expect that the size of the fire is actually larger than what we’re currently estimating it as but until we can get a better estimate from the ground we won’t know exactly what that looks like.”
Lucius can confirm, however, that the fire was likely human-caused and that fire origin and cause personnel are en route to the fire today. Currently 45 personnel, four pieces of heavy equipment, one helicopter and airtankers are responding today.
Lucius says the blaze is located right on the edge of Allie Lake about 55 kilometres northwest of Kamloops and is just outside the perimeter of last year’s monster Elephant Hill wildfire.
