LYTTON — It’s been almost seven years since Darcy Brian Turner went missing, but police are not giving up on the search.

Turner, who was 55 years old when he was reported missing on June 20, 2011, had gone into Stein Valley Park near Lytton on June 4 that year.

North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says he was on a vision quest — a traditional journey he had done for five years.

She says Turner had made plans to be picked up at the end of his trip on June 19 but failed to show up.

“Lytton RCMP Detachment and volunteer searchers completed a six-day search which included two helicopters, search dog team and thirty-five volunteers. The trail is challenging and off-trail travel is virtually impossible due to blow-down, flooding, high water and steep terrain.”

Saunderson says police found and spoke to two people who saw Turner at the start of his journey but there have been no sightings of him since.

Turner is described as:

  • Metis
  • Between five foot seven and five eleven tall
  • 160-200 pounds
  • Brown eyes
  • Thinning shoulder length grey hair
  • Unshaven

Saunderson adds Turner may have been wearing a blue and black jacket, an orange t-shirt, khaki pants, blue-grey basecall cap and hiking boots. She says he also may have a blue backpack with a sleeping bag attached and a small blue tarp.

Saunderson says the investigation remains active and that police have come up empty despite pursuing every possible angle.
