RYAN MURPHY WANTS TO MAKE #METOO ANTHOLOGY: The New Yorker sat down for an in-depth look at Ryan Murphy‘s oeuvre as he heads to Netflix, and dropped a few tidbits about his future ventures as well. He is reportedly in talks with Julianne Moore on projects, is floating the notion of getting into the “wellness space” a la Gwyneth Paltrow and is pitching a new show, Consent. It would look at #MeToo: “every episode would explore a different story, starting with an insidery account of The Weinstein Company.” The show, which would be helmed by a different director every time, would also tackle the Kevin Spacey story. And believe me – Luke Cage is nothing but a man,” the late Reg E. Cathey says in the trailer. The season opens two years after the first season, following the death of Mahershala Ali‘s Cottonmouth.
ALI WONG SIGNS ON FOR NETFLIX ANIMATED SERIES: Ali Wong is joining Tiffany Haddish in Tuca & Bertie, Netflix‘s upcoming animated comedy show hailing from Michael Eisner‘s The Tornante Company. The 10-episode show was created by Lisa Hanawalt of BoJack Horseman fame. It follows the stories of two bird ladies who live in the same apartment building. Haddish plays a toucan and Wong plays a songbird.
NEOREALIST DIRECTOR ERMANNO OLMI DIES AT 86: A beloved Italian neorealist director whose 1978 film The Tree of Wooden Clogs won the Palme d’Or in Cannes has died at age 86. Ermanno Olmi‘s films include Il Posto, The Legend of the Holy Drinker and Long Live the Lady! No cause of death was revealed.
AMC GREENLIGHTS DIETLAND COMPANION TALK SHOW: AMC has ordered Unapologetic With Aisha Tyler as a companion series for Dietland. The talk show is set to explore female-centric topics raised by the Julianna Margulies series. Dietland follows Plum Kettle (The Mindy Project‘s Joy Nash), an obese woman preparing for weight-loss surgery who becomes caught between old-fashioned ideas and radical new notions of beauty. Kitty (Julianna Margulies) is a magazine editor whose life becomes chaotic when a feminist terror organization targets people she knows. Dietland premieres Monday, June 4 at 9 p.m. with back-to-back episodes before moving to its regular time at 10 p.m. the following week. Unapologetic will air at 11 p.m. on June 4, moving up an hour in subsequent weeks.
