HULU GREENLIGHTS MINDY KALING’S 4 WEDDINGS ANTHOLOGY: Hulu is pulling the trigger on Mindy Kaling‘s Four Weddings and a Funeral adaptation. She wrote the remake, which, like the film starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell, follows a group of friends as their lives intersect over weddings and a funeral. Her critically acclaimed The Mindy Project streamed on Hulu for three seasons after Fox canceled it. It ended on November 14th after six seasons. HANDMAID’S TALE IS RENEWED: Blessed be! Hulu has given The Handmaid’s Tale the go-ahead for a third season just as its second season kicks off. So far, the Margaret Atwood adaptation has branched off from Gilead into Boston as we formerly knew it.
TRAILER FOR A SIMPLE FAVOR DROPS: Blake Lively has a dark secret in her new mystery-thriller, A Simple Favor. The film lands in theaters on September 14th. “I do consider Emily my best friend. She’s this wonderful, elegant person,” Anna Kendrick (as Stephanie) says of Lively’s character in the preview. Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding, who plays Emily’s husband, Sean, continues: “She is an enigma, my wife. You can get close to her, but never quite reach her.” In anticipation of the trailer’s release, Lively freaked out the Internet by deleting her Instagram posts and following only women named Emily Nelson.
JAKE GYLLENHAAL CAST AS LEONARD BERNSTEIN: The prolific composer Leonard Bernstein is getting the biopic treatment, based on the biography Leonard Bernstein, by Humphrey Burton. Cary Joji Fukunaga will direct and Jake Gyllenhaal will star. The film will track Bernstein’s life, including his rise to great fame as the New York Philharmonic conductor, and the struggles he grappled with along the way.
