MOVIEPASS BACK GOTTI FILM: After the filmmakers pulled Gotti from would-be distributor Lionsgate last fall, it has found a new partner in MoviePass Ventures. The company is taking an equity stake in Gotti, starring John Travolta as the titular John Gotti. “Gotti is precisely the type of film we established MoviePass Ventures to support,” MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe said. “We are helping boost traffic to these theaters for people to see these great films. This is an ambitious movie for which we’re thrilled to offer exclusive opportunities, such as exclusive tickets to the U.S. premiere event, word of mouth screenings and other Gotti related events, to our nationwide subscriber base.” Gotti will drop June 15th. A STAR IS BORN TRAILER DEBUTS: Director Bradley Cooper debuted the first trailer for A Star Is Born during the Warner Bros. panel at Las Vegas’ CinemaCon, speaking warmly of the lead Lady Gaga, who stars opposite him. “She’s kind of a revelation in this movie,” Cooper said. “When I approached her for it, she said, ‘Well, we’re going to sing live.’ I said, ‘You’ll sing live because I don’t sing.’ And she said, ‘No, no, what I can’t stand in movies is when you see playback and that they’re lip-syncing. We’re going to sing live.’ I knew we were going to have to do that, and luckily I had time and I had wonderful support.” Cooper plays an alcoholic country singer, while Gaga plays an aspiring pop star with self-esteem issues.

LAUREN COHAN TO RETURN TO THE WALKING DEAD: Lauren Cohan‘s future in AMC‘s The Walking Dead was in question, but she will return for Season 9, the network confirms. She shared the good news Tuesday night at CinemaCon, where she is promoting Mile 22 (Mark Wahlberg also stars). “I’m going back,” she told EW. “There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell.”

HULU GREENLIGHTS LESS THAN ZERO: A Less Than Zero show is in the works at Hulu. The show will be based on the 1985 bestseller by Bret Easton Ellis, which also became a 1987 film starring Andrew McCarthy, Robert Downey Jr., Jami Gertz and James Spader. Craig Wright (Lost, Tyrant, Greenleaf) will pen the script and executive produce the Fox 21 drama alongside Ellis. The show will explore themes of nihilism and celebrity culture.

NETFLIX PLANS BUZZFEED DOCUSERIES: Netflix is set to debut a shortform series following journalists at BuzzFeed News as the report out stories. Dubbed Follow This, it will clock in at 15 minutes per episode. The series, which has been given 20 episodes, will debut July 9th. “We’re thrilled that Netflix saw the drama in the work of our journalism and the stories we tell,” said BuzzFeed News Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith. “And we’re so pleased to have brought what we’ve learned to Netflix‘s unmatched audience.”
