Bill Cosby’s Lawyer Make Plea

Bill Cosby‘s lawyers made a fiery plea Tuesday, urging jurors to acquit the 80-year-old comedian of the three sexual assault charges he’s facing.

Cosby stands accused of drugging and assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in 2004. She is one of several dozen women who claim Cosby drugged and assaulted them, but only her case can be tried in court because of statute of limitations laws. He denies all allegations of nonconsensual sex. His first trial ended in a hung jury.

• His lawyers said the charges were based on “flimsy, silly, ridiculous evidence,” put forward by a “pathological liar” out for a payday.
• “Acquit, acquit Mr. Cosby,” lawyer Kathleen Bliss pleaded. “You’re about to make one of the most important decisions you will have ever made in your lives. You will decide the fate of Mr. Cosby.”
• In her closing remarks, Bliss called out Montgomery County DA Kevin Steele. “I could say Mr. Steele sexually assaulted me last year. It’s my word against his word.”
• “But it’s preposterous,” she added.
• “We are not snowflakes. We are not delicate flowers,” the attorney told jurors. “As women, we don’t abandon facts or science, or truth. As men and women we reject gossip, and speculation and false promises.”
• Also on Tuesday, Cosby’s wife Camille, 74, made her first appearance at the 11-day trial. Wearing an orange and white jacket, she smiled serenely and held her husband’s arm entering court.
