Swedish DJ Avicii, 28, was found dead in Oman on Friday, his publicist confirmed. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” the publicist, Diana Baron, said in a statement.

Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, died Friday at a resort in Muscat, Oman, of undisclosed causes at the age of 28. Two post-mortem examinations have been conducted, with authorities ruling out foul play. However, a cause of death has not been released.

Avicii had retired from performing in 2016 after suffering “very public health problems for the past few years, including acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking,” The Hollywood Reporter writes.

He won two MTV Music Awards, one Billboard Music Award and earned two Grammy nominations.

“It’s been a very crazy journey. I started producing when I was 16. I started touring when I was 18. From that point on, I just jumped into 100 percent,” Avicii said in 2016.

Avicii, whose hits included “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother,” was reportedly staying at the Muscat Hills Resort while vacationing in Oman when he died.

Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, who knew Avicii from playing at their wedding, said they were saddened by his death. “We are grateful that we got to know him and admired him as an artist and the great person he was. He made our wedding unforgettable with his amazing music. Our warmest thoughts go to his family,” they said in a joint statement.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven called him “one of Sweden’s biggest musicians.”

Avicii’s death comes just days after he was nominated for a 2018 Billboard Music Award for top dance/electronic album for his EP Avicii (01).

Since news of his death broke, fans and performers around the world have paid tribute to him.
