Smallville alum Allison Mack, 35, was indicted Friday on charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy, according to a statement released by the Justice Department.

Mack was arrested for her role in the alleged sex cult Nxivm, a group that allegedly poses as a self-help group, but in reality is a pyramid scheme recruiting people to exploit “both sexually and for their labor, to the defendants’ benefit,” according to U.S attorney Richard P. Donoghue.

  • “As alleged in the indictment, Allison Mack recruited women to join what was purported to be a female mentorship group that was, in fact, created and led by Keith Raniere,” Donoghue stated.
  • According to prosecutors, they have evidence that Mack pledged her “full and complete life” to Raniere, and promised to give him any children she ever had. She also allegedly admitted abusing her own nephews.
  • She pleaded not guilty. “The allegations contained in the indictment are only that: allegations. The hard facts establish that she is not a risk of flight,” said attorney Sean Buckley. The judge declined to release her from detention, but she is expected to file a new request on Monday.
  • The group’s founder Raniere was also indicted.

DETAILED ALLEGATIONS, GROUP’S RESPONSE

  • In addition to shelling out money to belong to the cult, women in the group were allegedly placed on restrictive diets, had graphic photographs of them taken, were coerced into sex with Raniere and were sometimes branded in the groin area.
  • On Friday in court, it was also revealed that Mack married Battlestar Galactica actress Nicki Clyne.
  • Mack, Raniere and Clyne were tracked down by feds in Mexico.
  • The group has attracted several high-profile figures to its workshops, including billionaire Richard Branson.
  • A rep for Mack has not responded to requests for comments. A statement on posted to Nxivm’s website reads in part, “We strongly believe the justice system will prevail in bringing the truth to light,” adding that the group is cooperating with authorities.
  • If convicted, Mack and Raniere face a minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment and up to life imprisonment.
