KAMLOOPS — A woman from Kamloops was recognized for her volunteer work during last year’s wildfire season at a ceremony in Victoria Tuesday.

Carolynne Miller was one of six Public Safety Lifeline award winners and recogized at the Parliament Buildings. She was presented the award by Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth and by Emergency Management BC staff.

Miller was honoured for her work in the area of emergency social services (ESS).

The retired teacher joined the Kamloops ESS Team after the 2003 wildfire season and now works as the documentation chief.

Dan Sutherland, assistant chief with Kamloops Fire Rescue, says the award was well-deserved.

“She has grown to become a key component of our team,” he says. “Her leadership, her style, the freshness she brings to what can be very challenging work was simply outstanding through the 2017 wildfire events and us hosting over 10,000 evacuees from around the province.”

Prior to retiring in 1998, Miller worked as an educator for 35 years. She last worked at Sa-Hali Secondary School.
