KAMLOOPS — The UBC Thunderbirds took a 30-0 haltime lead and then held on for a 33-30 win over the Alberta Golden Bears in a pre-season U Sports university football game at Hillside Stadium Wednesday night.

UBC scored 21 of their 30 first half points on turnovers.

Former Valleyview Vikings receiver Lliam Wishart, in his university debut, played most of the second half and had one catch.

Wishart has been battling a lower back injury.

Thunderbirds head coach Blake Nill liked what he saw from Wishart, saying “he’s going to be the real deal — this is the kind of kid that can play university football right now.”

As for his Thunderbirds debut, Wishart says “tons of fun, I feel spoiled being able to play here. “
Wishart says he sees a bright future for football in Kamloops, saying “all the leaders in the football program in this community are doing the right things—-they’re doing a great job”
