BARRIERE, BC — It’s a tradition dating back almost seven decades. The North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo was held in Barriere this weekend, and is an event the community works hard to bring together every year.
Jill Hayward, President of the Fall Fair Association, says the annual event is about reconnecting with where one comes from.
“I think people like to get back to their roots… [and] love to come to the best little country fair anywhere, ” Hayward said.
Alison Spooner, from Ashcroft, has raised lambs for the past five years, and has entered them in the Fall Fair for just as long. She says she enjoys meeting new people at the event, but likes the friendly competition the most. “I… like the winning, and being with the animals is good,” Spooner said.
Mayor of Barriere, Virginia Smith, says the event helps hold the community together. “It’s a huge event for the community, not only from an economic development perspective, or the revenue it brings in. It brings people to our community who have a chance to look at Barriere. I’ve met a few people who’ve relocated here, because they came to the Fall Fair and liked the community so much.”
