Kamloops man charged with beating family dog to death
KAMLOOPS — Crown counsel has approved animal cruelty charges against a Kamloops man they say beat a chihuahua to death with a fence post.
BC SPCA says it was during a Thanksgiving celebration that the family dog, Jersey, bit a family member, resulting in a small wound.
Crown alleges that’s when Christopher Mathes took the dog outside and beat it to death.
SPCA Chief Prevention and Enforcement Officer Marcie Moriarty says if Mathes is found guilty, he faces significant penalties.
