KAMLOOPS COMMUNITY BAND 2016—2017 SEASON
The Kamloops Community Band invites interested musicians of all ages to bring their instruments and join us for the 2016—17 season. It promises to be one of our most exciting seasons, culminating on April 26 with a shared concert featuring our guests, the Winkler Prins Harmonie from Veendam, Holland. Winkler Prinz Harmonie is an exceptional performance group which tours regularly from its base in Holland. They have performed in various European festivals and in Switzerland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. This is their second tour in Canada, and we are honoured to host them for a performance here.
Kamloops Community Band’s concert series includes a December 1st performance with the Cantabile Singers as guests, and our annual benefit for the Richard Dickens Music Scholarship Fund on March 2, in conjunction with the S.D. 73 Honour Band.
Directed by Cliff Noakes and Don Bennett, the Kamloops Community Band is made up of amateur players from secondary schools, university students, working adults and retirees: in short, anyone who plays a band instrument and wants to enjoy music making in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Our music selections include concert band classics, traditional marches, popular music from movies, musical theatre, jazz standards and contemporary pop music.
Rehearsals are Sundays, 7:00 to 9:00 pm in the music room at South Kamloops Secondary School on Ninth Avenue (directly across the parking lot from Sagebrush Theatre). Anyone who enjoys playing with a congenial group of amateur musicians, and who has a couple of years of playing experience is welcome to attend.
As part of Kamloops’ Culture Days, the band invites the public to attend an Open Rehearsal on Sunday, October 2 during our regular rehearsal hours.
